The David Letterman Show, November 2001

Daniel: Yeah. Im really, really excited.
David: And is this your first visit to New York City?
Daniel: Yeah.
David: What do you think? Great, aint it?
Daniel: Great its so much cooler than London.
David: And you had the chance to look around, sight-seeing, stuff like that?
Daniel: Uh, I went to the Empire State Building. It was so tall, it was amazing. I went to FAO Schwartz, which was very cool.
David: And did you get a chance to buy a lot of stuff?
Daniel: I bought a big magic set.
David: Yeah, thats prettythats like the most important stuff. Sure.
David: Earlier, you were on MTV with Carson Daly in Total Request Live, what was that like? What would they have you doing there?
Daniel: Uh, well, theres nothing but glass windowsas opposed to brick windows.
David: Its hard to breathe.
Daniel: Carson Daly said to me Look outside. So I went out, and there was this girl with a huge plank saying Nothing could come between me and Harry Potter.
David: Wow.
Daniel: And she was wearing nothing but a towel. And she came over to us right after, and she was pretty cool.
David: Hes like one of the Beatles, isnt he, Paul?
Paul: Yeah.
David: OK, now tell me a little bit about being an actor and a kid and how that works. Have you been an actor all your life? How did you start being an actor? And how is it like being a kid as an actor?
David: So when did you meet George and Ringo?
David: They started in Liverpool, right? So how did you get the Harry Potter gig?
Daniel: Luck, I guess. Basically, I went to the theater and David came in, and he was sitting really close and he was watching us. And I dont know what to say to him, and he kept turning around to me. Im a little shy, and I didnt really know who he was, so it was a bit strange. But my dad knew him from work and he recognized him. So, in the break, David came over and he was introduced to me and he was very cool. Then the next day, we got a phone call saying that Would you like to come out and meet with David? Just to meet, not to audition. I said yeah and after that, we got another call and (that was) to audition.
David: And did you just go nuts when you found out you got the part? I mean, everybody has anticipated the film for quite a while and everybody knew that it was gonna be an enormous thing. So as a kid, you must have been overwhelmed.
Daniel: I kinda just I was in the bath. And I just sat there and I started to cry. I am so happy.
David: Same thing happened when I got this show.
