Rosie O'Donnell Show, November 2001 Rosie: Please welcome,
cutie patootie- Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe! Hi Daniel! Daniel: I sit here? Rosie: Yes, you sit right there.
And look, Ill even give the footstool. Look how nice that is. Daniel: Wow, cool. Rosie: Now how old are you 12? Daniel:
12 years old. Rosie: And you filmed this when you were like 10 and a half or 11 Daniel: 11 years old. Rosie: Now
youre not an actor really, you didnt act before this in films? Daniel: I did one film called Tailor of Panama and I was
in David Copperfield" for the BBC. Rosie: The BBC. So this was your first big film? Daniel: Yeah, it was cool. Rosie:
Now of course you had read the books? Daniel: Yeah, Id read the books. Rosie: Were you nervous, going to audition?
Daniel: Um, I didnt really think Id get it I just kind of thought it would be a good experience to just go up for it and
you know, Id meet Chris Columbus and David Heyman and all those people I obviously really wanted to get the part but I just
tried not to be too nervous. Rosie: Yeah, and were you very nervous? Daniel: Um yeah. Rosie: You sort of didnt think
you had a shot at it. Daniel: Yeah. But as soon as I walked into the room, Chris Columbus made me feel totally at ease. Rosie:
Yeah, I love the books so much Yeah. And I thought the movie was beautiful and you were great in it. Daniel: Well thank
you very much. Rosie: Its a big challenge though, and I mean thats like the most famous literary figure of our time- Harry
Potter. I mean to be cast in that! I mean its a pretty big thing! Daniel: Yeah, well its not only a big thing, its a great
thing its amazing! Rosie: Were your parents ok with it right away or did they have a little reservation? Daniel: Um, they
only had one concern, which was well, when I went up for Tailor of Panama, and when I went up for David Copperfield I had
a tendency to really get my hopes up and they knew there were loads of kids going up for it and they didnt want me to really
get my hopes up and then be disappointed. Rosie: Did you know that they had seen thousands of kids before you, trying to
find the Harry? Daniel: No. Rosie: Cause there was like a worldwide searchthey kept looking and looking they couldnt
find the right Harry. Then you walked in and you were it, young Daniel! Daniel: Thank you. Rosie: How long did it take
to film the movie? Daniel: Late September to late April. Rosie: Wow, thats pretty long. Daniel: Yeah, it was a long
time. Rosie: Most movies take about three months but this one had a lot of special effects. Daniel: Yeah. Rosie:
And how did you do the Quidditch scene? Daniel: Well I cant tell you. Rosie: You cant tell? Its a secret? Daniel:
Yeah, sorry! Rosie: Cmon! Ive been in movies, cmon Daniel! Daniel: No, I'm sorry. Rosie: Ok, youre not at liberty
to discuss it, I can understand that Daniel: Im not at liberty to divulge that information. Rosie: You dont want Jo
getting mad at you. Daniel: No. No, shes cool. Rosie: When you met her, were you a little impressed? I mean, JK Rowling-
she wrote the whole thing? Daniel: I met her and I was just in awe. And shes so nice. Shes really cool. Rosie: How was
the premiere in London? Was that a big to-do? Daniel: That was terrifying that was really scary. Rosie: Why, cause
there was lots of celebrities? Daniel: Lots of celebrities, and lots of cameras. It was kind of like strobe lighting-
all of them flashing at the same time. Rosie: Right. As you walk by, everybodys screamingDaniel over here! Daniel, Daniel,
Daniel!Harry Potter you know, I always thought his scar was in the middle of his forehead. Daniel: Uh, its never actually
said, where it is in any of the books and JK Rowling approved not only the scar, where it was, but absolutely everything in
the film. Rosie: Yeah, so she wanted it over, hidden a little bit. Daniel: Yeah. Rosie: I wanted to play Ron and
Ginnys Mom- thats Julie Walters in the movie. Its only one partin this film, but she has a bigger part in the other ones.
That was my role! They didnt think I could do the British accenttheyre probably right. No, my British accent is like Dame
Edna, you know Dame Edna? Thats not really good, it wouldnt really have fit in, you know what I mean Daniel? How do you feel
having yourself on magazine covers, and on the cover of TV Guide. I mean, youre 12- how do you feel about that? Daniel:
Very privileged. I mean, how many boys my age get to have their pictures on all these magazines. Its so cool. Rosie: Now
youre obviously going to be in the other Harry Potter movies? Daniel: Uh, at the moment Im just doing the second one. Rosie:
Just the second one theyll see if you get too big then. Maybe youll be too big. Daniel: Uh, well Harry kind of grows with
the books so I guess its just if they want me to. Rosie: Just if they want you to. Well, I think they might. You did a
good job, little Daniel Radcliffe youre so adorably cute and shy I just wanna like take you to Great Adventure and put you
on a roller coaster. Daniel: Thatd be cool!! Rosie: British people are so distinguished. An American kid would have
been like HEY, YAH! YAH! not "Quite fun, feel quite privileged Daniel: Thats a good accent! Rosie: See! I couldve done
it! * Ah never mind. Coming up next, were going to meet Hermione and Ron
